Lucas Wider has been working at e3 AG since 2019. After studying business administration, he began his career as a business analyst.
Business analysis as a driving force of successful digitalization
The interface between business and IT aroused my interest early in my business studies. With a focus on strategy, I gained in-depth insights into the internal processes and structures of companies and found that digitalization, i.e. the change and optimization of processes, will in future affect companies across all sectors and sectors. It was clear to me that I wanted to actively take part in this change.
At first, however, I did not see myself in the role of business analyst. However, not because of the activities of the business analyst, but because I had actually heard little to nothing about it. But if someone asks me today about the tasks of a business analyst, I can hardly be stopped.
Business Analysis: The Right Mix Between Consulting and IT
As a business graduate, I have comparatively less technical know-how than an IT graduate, but I am nevertheless suitable for the role of business analyst. Of course, as a business analyst, you have to be enthusiastic about new technologies and have a certain IT affinity. Equally important, however, is the interest in business processes as well as the constant coordination and communication with the customer. In short, the business analyst closes the gap between technology and business development.
Everyday work of a business analyst
My most important task as a business analyst is to clearly identify, define and finally communicate all the information and requirements of the customer. During the project period, I am the direct contact person for various topics and therefore a lot of things take place at the customer’s site. In workshops and appointments, the appropriate solution is worked out together and the focus is mainly on the collection and preparation of the requirements in order to be able to derive concrete goals from it. As a business analyst, I particularly like the wide range of tasks, insights into various industries and specialist departments as well as exciting encounters with many different people – internally and externally.
After my studies, I was looking for an exciting and challenging job in a dynamic and innovative environment. I learned about e3 through a friend and then applied. I can rate the entire application process as extremely positive. No typical application questions were asked, it was more of an exchange on an equal footing about my professional qualifications and my motivation for the job.
